Jojoba Oil in Skincare: Why It's in Our Cleansing Balm and Body Cream

Jojoba oil is one of the most popular ingredients in natural skincare, and for good reason. It softens, nourishes and gives formulas a silky glide. In Glow Ritual, it works alongside grass-fed tallow in our Whipped Tallow Cleansing Balm and Whipped Tallow Body Cream.
What is jojoba oil?
Jojoba (pronounced "ho-ho-ba") comes from the seeds of Simmondsia chinensis, a hardy shrub native to the deserts of the south-western United States and northern Mexico. Although we call it an oil, jojoba is technically a liquid wax, made mostly of wax esters. That makes it unusually stable and gives it a smooth, non-sticky feel on skin.
Jojoba oil benefits for skin
- Softens and conditions: as an emollient, jojoba helps skin feel smooth and supple.
- Helps reduce moisture loss: it forms a light, flexible layer on the skin's surface that helps skin hold on to hydration.
- Skin-familiar: your skin's natural oil (sebum) also contains wax esters, which is one reason jojoba tends to feel comfortable rather than heavy.
- Silky glide: it helps rich formulas spread easily, which matters in a balm you massage into your face.
Why jojoba is in our Cleansing Balm
A good cleanser should lift away makeup, sunscreen and the day without leaving skin tight. Jojoba helps the balm melt and glide as you massage it in, while tallow, squalane and panthenol keep skin feeling soft. Add water and the balm turns milky and foamy, then rinses clean.

Body skin, especially elbows, knees, shins and heels, can feel rough and thirsty. In the Body Cream, jojoba works with shea butter to soften and condition, while tallow adds rich lipid nourishment and urea helps smooth rough, dry patches. The result is rich, whipped moisture that leaves skin soft, not sticky.

As with any skincare, patch test before full use: apply a small amount to the inner arm twice daily for 7–10 days. Stop use if you notice persistent irritation, and seek medical advice if it continues.
