Bisabolol in Skincare: The Chamomile-Derived Ingredient in Our Cleansing Balm

Cleansing is the step most likely to leave skin feeling tight. That's why our Whipped Tallow Cleansing Balm includes bisabolol, an ingredient chosen to help keep the cleanse calm and comfortable.
What is bisabolol?
Bisabolol (often listed as alpha-bisabolol) is a naturally occurring compound best known as a component of German chamomile. It can also be obtained from other plant sources, such as the candeia tree. It's been used in skincare for decades because of its comforting properties.
Bisabolol benefits for skin
- Helps soothe and calm: bisabolol is used to help skin feel comfortable, especially in rinse-off and leave-on products.
- Easy to formulate: it's oil-soluble, so it blends well into rich, lipid-based textures such as a tallow balm.
- Plays well with others: it complements moisture-supporting ingredients such as panthenol and glycerin.
How bisabolol fits our Cleansing Balm

Our balm works in three phases. First it melts as a silky, velvety balm that lifts makeup and sunscreen. Add water and it becomes a rich, milky, foamy cleanse. Rinse, or remove with a damp face cloth, and skin is left clean, soft and comfortable. Bisabolol sits alongside grass-fed tallow, jojoba oil, squalane and panthenol to keep that experience gentle.
