Can You Use Tallow Moisturiser with Sunscreen?

Yes, tallow moisturiser can be part of a routine that includes sunscreen. They have different jobs: moisturiser helps skin feel soft and comfortable; sunscreen provides labelled UV protection. Glow Ritual is a moisturiser, not a sunscreen, and does not have an SPF claim.

A simple routine can still include both. “One hardworking moisturiser” means simplifying the moisturising step—not asking one jar to do the work of sun protection.

Where does Glow Ritual fit in the morning?

Glow Ritual's directions are to apply a small amount to clean skin, let it absorb, then follow with SPF. Warm the moisturiser between your fingertips and smooth it over your face and neck. Give it time to settle rather than immediately rubbing several layers together.

Then follow your sunscreen's own directions, including any instruction to apply to clean, dry skin. Do not apply sunscreen onto visibly wet skin or a slippery layer of excess moisturiser. There is no single waiting time that guarantees compatibility between every pair of products.

If you prefer moisturising while skin is lightly damp, our damp-skin guide explains that step. Let the surface dry and the moisturiser settle before sunscreen.

Keep the two products separate

Do not stir sunscreen into your moisturiser or mix them in your palm to create a shortcut. Use the sunscreen as supplied and as directed; a homemade blend does not come with a tested SPF rating. Likewise, do not assume that tallow, botanical oils or vitamin E give your moisturiser a meaningful sun-protection factor.

A practical Australian sun-protection check

Cancer Council Australia recommends broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF50 or SPF50+ sunscreen when the UV index is 3 or above, together with protective clothing, a broad-brimmed hat, sunglasses and shade.

Its application advice is to use sunscreen 20 minutes before going outside and reapply every two hours, and immediately after swimming, sweating or towel-drying. Follow your label's amount and coverage directions rather than borrowing the small amount used for moisturiser. Cancer Council's guide includes face, neck and ears in its coverage advice.

Read Cancer Council's sunscreen application guide for the full instructions.

What if the layers pill or feel too heavy?

If the combination rolls into little flakes, reassess the layers underneath your sunscreen. Try less moisturiser, allow it to settle, or simplify optional serums and makeup. Do not reduce the sunscreen quantity below its directions just to improve the finish.

Compatibility is individual. A product described as makeup-friendly cannot guarantee a smooth result with every sunscreen or foundation. If a combination repeatedly pills, a different pairing may be more practical than adding another product to fix it.

Does a richer moisturiser replace sunscreen at night?

These are separate decisions. Your evening moisturiser addresses comfort after cleansing; daytime sun protection addresses UV exposure. Neither step makes the other redundant. If you use prescribed skincare, follow the application advice from your clinician.
